Silvana Costa, owner of Wicked Peacock Designs: Boston's Sexiest, 2010
by Scott Kearnan
Costa is a Jill of all trades...she repurposes vintage materials into rings and hair accessories for her design company, Wicked Peacock Designs...We deem her a sexy dirt-kicking design diva.
Kearnan: Where'd "Wicked Peacock" originate? I was responding to an e-mail asking how I liked working in the Back Bay...I wrote, "It's a wicked peacock scene; everyone's strutting their stuff." After I was like, "Damn, that's a hot double entendre."

Statement-making accessories are always in style, especially big, shiny cocktail rings. The first time I met accessories designer Silvana Costa, she was sporting a massive brushed gold saucer with a slice of pearl on her finger. I have no shame asking people where they got their coveted jewels, and Costa's reply was that she had made it. I had to try my hardest not to tear the ring right off her finger.
Costa has been has been designing for her label, Wicked Peacock Designs, for two years. Her delicate toppers and bridal headpieces incorporate feathers, flowers, and vintage beads. I like her veiled headbands best. Be sure to check out the Wicked Peacock look book, which features stunning photography by Laura Parent.
The Medford-based accessories designer is not afraid to wear something "a little out there," and has fiery style for a Bostonian. (She can't live without her black-stitched, vintage Tennesee high-heeled, gold-tipped cowgirl boots.) Her motto: I peacock, therefore I am.
When I ran into Costa recently at a friend's craft night, she was busily sorting through a tray of vintage beads, whipping up rhinestone-encrusted stunners and enamel brooches, which she promptly pinned on fellow crafters. The girl has a natural talent for turning '80s clip-on earrings into baubles you would actually wear.
Wicked Peacock can be found at Davis Squared in Somerville (whose owner, Melissa Christie, Costa credits with inspiring her to market her work) and Cibeline on Charles Street.
Looking for a funky, vintage, unique cocktail ring, bridal headpiece or hair accessory? Wicked Peacock Designs is the mastermind of the wickedly talented Silvana Costa who hails from the Boston area….Silvana designed the headpiece and cocktail ring that our “bride” wore a few weeks back at the inspirational shoot at The Rocks Estate. Here are a few shots I snapped of some of Wicked Peacock’s cocktails rings when I had a few quiet moments that busy day!

A "Wicked" Photo Shoot Takes Place at Medford's Brooks Estate
The purpose was to photograph and launch Costa’s new line of cocktail rings, “Gypsy Glam,” made from re-purposed vintage jewelry.
Having grown-up in Medford, it was important for Costa to shoot at the Manor.
“I woke up one day and thought, we have to do the shoot at the Brooks Estate,” she said. “I wanted to photograph in a place with a historic-classy-vintage feel, but also somewhere that reflected where I came from as a way to reconnect with my roots, since I moved back to Medford after having left for almost ten years. Medford has a lot of charm, a lot of history, and I want to call some attention to it.”
Costa couldn’t have done it without the work of Adrienne Apel, caretaker of the Brooks Estate, Tom Lincoln, MBELT president, photographer Laura Parent of Relive Photography, stylist Amanda Maciel Antunes of d.aMa Designs, models Shannon O’Brien and Brehon Garcia-Dale and coordinating manager Becky Brackett.
You can purchase Wicked Peacock Designs at Davis Squared in Davis Square, Cibeline on Charles Street in Beacon Hill or by contacting Silvana Costa at wickedpeacock@gmail.com.

We are so excited to share with you a photo shoot by Massachusetts wedding photographer, Relive Photography. As a wedding photographer with a Vintage Flair at Relive Photography, I love accessories and especially “Vintage Accessories," so I thought it would be fun to show some different and unique items that are perfect for your wedding day. I have just finished a Fashion Photo Shoot to show-off these exact items. Brides can wear these custom hand-made rings as costume accessories on the big day, and she also can give them as gifts to her bridal party. These rings have all been custom made by Wicked Peacock and are all created from antique estate jewelry which means that every one is a unique one of a kind. Also Wicked Peacock is a fabulous designer of Vintage Hair Accessories and Bridal Hair Accessories.

With Courtney Roy-Branigan at the Boston Center for Adult Education's special event, Celebrating the First Ladies of Fashion. Here Silvana impromptly discusses the importance of "owning your look" and fashion as "performative, a role you play, a character you pull out of yourself." Wicked Peacock Designs donated first-lady-inspired fascinators to help raise money for the BCAE's scholarship fund.
Silvana's ostrich-feathered headpiece is not a Wicked Peacock Design. (Vintage score from Poor Little Rich Girl on Newbury!)
